VULCANIC SATURNIA; S1-E8; TRAVEL LOG

Thermal baths in Saturnia, Pisa, almost Elba island and Rome. What else do you wish before Christmas?

I am taking the road from Bologna back to the italian west coast. There is no escape from Pisa, whatever I like it or not. I was first thinking to skip Pisa and go directly from Pianoro to Follonica, and I am glad I changed my mind.n I love Pisa. Pisa is an amazing city with deep history and highly variable architecture. Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa and you shall see the house he was born in in this video, the leaning tower is there and I explain why this tower of Pisa is so queer.

Then I continue to Porto Santo Stefano cathing a December happening of LIGLU and EPIC EVENING AT LIGLU WITH IRON MAIS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6Say9WOxaE - what a great evening! What a great italian party!
I'll go to Saturnia. This is a place where you can warm yourself up with natural thermal baths and forget everything you know about warm baths, bathtubs, jaccusies and bobbling massage baths at home. Italy has it all out in the nature. Views, places and culture.

I arrive Rome to meet one of my closest and best friends here. David taking me in and we make a dinner while we are building some plans for the future. I will spend Christmas and probably New Years eve in Rome.

This time I am trying to locate the coast road between Frejus and Hyeres in Southern France. After looking at European map and taking the usual highway from Frejus to Hyeres, I looked instead at the map of France and found this road very quickly. It was nothing compared to what I expected, but I so some unusual places and got some new ideas about my future. The same day I drove up to Gorges du Verdon, the french Grand Canyon, with my old VW T3 to take a look around. If you are visiting the french riviera, you just need to buy an excursion to Gorges du Verdon and Gole del Verdon.

From amazing views to everyday life and more amazing views. In last episode of my Travel Log I mentioned that my planes had changed. See the episode - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LFQBvqV5B8

I am now on my way to Italy, instead of heading to Portugal. Jack Bottrill, the guy I met in Monaco some weeks earlier, are also in Italy and we agreed to meet outside Bologna in a place called Pianoro.  We made a couple of tasty dishes for dinner during the days together and went to explore Bologna on Sunday and it was a really pleasant experience. We went on the top of the tower in the middle of the city of Bologna and just walked around enjoying the city. To get to Bologna I drove the hole Italian riviera in the dark, and this is something I kind of regret doing. I hope I will be back exploring Italian Riviera closely soon enough. I passed all the way to Bologna trough the mountain area instead of taking highways. No need for my old VW to struggle trying to keep up on highways. Rather go in my own tempo on outside roads. Watch some cool views in Italy in this video.

Me and Jack has spend some days together and now it is time to separate our ways. May be for some time or may be forever. We just say "See You!" in case. You never know when you are on the road, may happen we meet again.

My daily life continues on the road in my little and comfortable Volkswagen T3 from 1982. Remember to subscribe to Need To Explore and see more of Italy in coming episodes with me, Michael Winall Youget.

TRAVEL LOG; S1-E6; CARCRASH IN CANNES

In this episode I arrive in one of most famous places on Earth - Cannes, France. Trough soon 70 years with Cannes Film Festival this city had to transfom itself along with the festival.

I barely noticed I arrived to Cannes from the north, after staying some days in Grasse. In my mind I had an image of luxurios town along the shore. At first it wasnt and therefore, I guess, I got confused. When I arrived to the promenade I got quickly all my thoughts in right place and understood that this is one of those cities that makes you feel special.

Sea view from the sandy beach surrounded by beautyful bay providing comeness to the waters inside the bay itself and variority of the small and bigger stores catch your eyes. Expensive, less expensive and everydays. You may choose as you desire.

I watch a carcrash with badly outcome for one of the cars. A VW Polo coming out from a crossroad in high speed and smashes into another car as this one standing still waiting for another car to move. Loud sound filled the streets around and almost jumped up in to the air of surprise as I was looking for running water in the nearby area from my VW T25/T3 - Polarekspressen. It was a rainy day in Cannes and I stayed "at home" the hole day, making myself a tasty dinner of something I never tasted before. Something very french.

For some time ago I got a tip from a local travel agency about taking a coast road from Frèjus to Hyeres and I am leaving Cannes to get to Frèjus. Passing some amazing landscapes I realize that the area around Cannes is the area on this planet I would like to settle down in. I always range the places I visit in three categories: I will like to stay here for one more day; I would like to be here for one more month; I will like to live here. Cannes is today in my last category, along with Frèjus.

CHANGE OIL ON 1982 MODEL VW TRANSPORTER

Passing the french riviera I just remembered that last time I changed oil on my belowed 1982 model VW Transporter - "Polarekspressen" - was about 4500 kilometers ago. I use to change my oil more frequently and do it every 5000 kilometers, even if the service book says I have to do it every 7500 kilometers. I had done some heavy driving recently, a lot of driving up hill and it is always a good idea to take care of your engine.

Watch my VW Climbing video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb_BZyT7q8s

It is time to change my oil on the road, or more presise, on a parking lot. Most of us would probably choose to go to an garage, but not me. I like to do things myself and I also had to make sure my oilcooler have it OK. It turned out it wasnt OK and I had to replace it after a little repair.

What do I do with my old oil you may ask. Watch this video below to the end and I show you.

In this episode of Need To Explore: I visit old border town south in France. I am exploring Monaco at night and visit old town of Monte-Carlo.

Old french border town of Entrevaux served as a border town between France and Italy for a very long time. I explore Entrevaux and show you its beauty. You will see house of the governor, learn how to recognize nobility houses and take a look at some canons.

Monaco at night is a fantastic place to be. Big yachts, fast cars and amazing buildings capture your sight. Clean streets, fancy beach, walk of football fame and pretty girls. Come with me and visit Monaco and Monte-Carlo at night.

For over 30 000 years people leaved in this area and it is time to explore old town of Monte-Carlo and Monaco. Ruled by Grimaldi family since year 1297, Monaco have a lot of history to tell. The best place to experience Monaco's history is old town of Monte-Carlo. Views over Monte-Carlo and the port of Monte-Carlo where you see all the yachts, ships and boats. Narrow and well maintained streets of old town of Monaco is an tourist attraction itself.

Yesterday was my day off. Filming is waiting until Friday and Michael and I went shopping. A lot of stores were closed because of some sort of a holiday in France, but one useful one was open.

I got myself some extra storage. More exactly shelf's that you can put under exciting shelf's. I think it is a perfect solution for small stuff and things like papers, books and such.

We have arrived old border town Entrevaux and spent the day sightseeing. Even if this is days I shouldn't be filming, I couldn't stand not showing Entrevaux to you. Subscribe to my channel on Youtube and wait for my next Travel Log episode next week: www.youtube.com/c/polarekspressennorge

Later today we expect to arrive Nice. I just got to know that Nice was Italian before in time. The city of Entrevaux is a borderfort between Italy and France from twelfth century.

Later on I will be in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. See latest episode of NEED TO EXPLORE under:

We are in Sisteron, France. Arriving here yesterday evening I didn't expect to get so cold. The thermometer showed me 10 degrees Celsius, but I really did not believed what I saw. It may be the first time I did not believed my eyes.

Me and Polarekspressen are finally on our right course. Of some strange reason or a wrong turn some place along the way we lost ourselfs in old french villages lately. We also visited an aviation museum in Montélimar yesterday.
